Game-Changing Moment
Saturday's game two was tight throughout the afternoon. And with ECU holding a slim 4-3 advantage in the seventh, John Wooten virtually put it away on a one-out, two-run homer for a three-run margin that UCF was unable to overcome.

Orlando, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After honoring Shane Brown, Chris Duffy, Matt Goodyear, Matt Manning and Cory Weech on Senior Day at the ballpark, UCF watched as East Carolina quieted a very vocal home crowd in a 7-5 victory by the Pirates (30-21, 10-10 Conference USA) Saturday. The Knights dropped to 30-21 on the season and 7-13 in C-USA contests.
Extending his hitting streak to 10 games, Brown cracked UCF's all-time top-10 in RBI with his 143rd and 144th in four years in a Black and Gold uniform. Already the record holder in HBP and in the top-10 in doubles, homers and sac flies as well, Brown also climbed to seventh thanks to two hits, giving him 242 for his career.
Also carrying an impressive streak, Beau Taylor's reached 17 games, the second-longest by a Knight in 2010 (Duffy at 20 games). And going yard, Jonathan Griffin connected for home run No. 11, which also was the Knights' 67th as a team in 2010 (one shy of tying the school record set in 2009). Griffin and Ryan Breen paced UCF with three hits apiece.
UCF starting pitcher Owen Dew was greeted with a pair of two-out runs in the first inning against the Pirates, and they held on to that lead until the third. ECU's hurler, Seth Maness sat down the first seven Knights until Breen and Austin Johnston earned singles. After a wild pitch and an error gave the home team its first run, Brown drove in Johnston on a one-out base hit to make it 2-2.
East Carolina tacked on another two-out run in the fourth to jump back on top, only to witness Taylor drive in Ronnie Richardson with a base hit in the home half. That would not affect the Pirates, which once again went ahead at 4-3 by way of its fourth two-out run in the sixth. But one inning later and Dew's ride would come to an end when John Wooten blasted a two-run homer to left.
That dinger would be answered by Griffin, who led off the seventh with a solo shot to right-center even though he fell behind in the count at 0-2. However the 6-4 margin was as close as the Black and Gold could get. Following yet another two-out run by ECU in the ninth, Brown delivered a RBI double in the bottom of the ninth and served as the tying run but the Knights failed to send it to extra innings.
The final C-USA home game of 2010 will have an early first pitch as UCF clashes with ECU at 11 a.m. Sunday.

-UCF turned two double plays Saturday, moving its season total to 56.
-Shane Brown's 10-game hitting streak marks the fifth time in his career that he has posted a streak of at least 10 games.
-Brown also recorded his fifth outfield assist of the year, and his second of the series.
-Freshman Austin Johnston notched his 10th sacrifice bunt of 2010, which ranks as the sixth most in a single-season by a Knight.
-On the hill, Owen Dew, Matt Manning and Joe Rogers combined to not give up a walk. It was the fourth time this season UCF did not issue a free pass.
