ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Sophomore Connor Arendell (Cape Coral, Fla.) of the UCF men's golf team carded a 71 Thursday and finished in a four-way tie for medalist honors in U.S. Open local qualifying at the Lake Wales Country Club in Lake Wales. Arendell now advances to 36-hole sectional qualifying next month.
Former UCF star David Johnson, who is currently playing professionally overseas, also advanced to the next round of qualifying by finishing second with a 66 recently at The Club at Admiral's Cover in Jupiter.
Arendell helped the Knights claim their second-consecutive Conference USA Championship in late April. He tied for second individually at 2-under 214. Next up for Arendell and the Knights is a trip to the NCAA Regionals in San Diego. Tournament play will begin on May 20.
