UCF Rowing Set to Host Alabama and Miami Saturday

April 30, 2010

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing squad will host both Alabama and Miami in its only home regatta of the season Saturday at the UCF Intercollegiate Rowing Center on Lake Pickett, with the first event scheduled for 9 a.m.

The Courtney Nelson Patterson memorial ceremony will take place right after the races at approximately 11 a.m.

The Knights' second novice eight squad will kick off the regatta at 9 a.m. The varsity eight squad follows at 9:15 a.m., before the novice eight squads take to the water. At 9:45 a.m., the second varsity eight will race, with the second varsity four following at 10 a.m. The meet will end with the varsity four boats racing at 10:15 a.m.

After the events are completed, the Black and Gold will honor a former Knight with a memorial ceremony. The Courtney Nelson Patterson plaque presentation will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the Greens and Grille Fundraising Luncheon at noon. The luncheon will be held to raise funds for the Courtney Nelson Patterson Memorial Fund to name a boat in her honor. A suggested donation of $20 will allow fans to receive lunch, beer and wine with all proceeds going to the fund.

Last season, the Knights competed against Duke in the inaugural home regatta at the UCF Intercollegiate Rowing Center and swept the Blue Devils, coming in first in every race.

UCF currently totals 28 victories for the season, including a sweep over Kansas State and a victory over nationally ranked Iowa.

This will be the last home regatta for UCF seniors Sheilah Abadines, Lauren Hampson, Nicole Hoag, Lauren Patton, Samantha MIller, Jordynn Pauls and Samantha Sarff.
