UCF Track & Field Finish Day Two at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF track & field team competed on day two of 116th The Penn Relays Carnival on Friday, with a top-10 finish from senior LaKendra Thames (Winter Garden, Fla.) and a strong showing by the 4x200-meter relay team highlighting the action.

Competing in one of the country's most prestigious track and field meets in the country, Thames was able to take seventh place in the discus with a top throw of 154-3.0/47.04m.

The squad's 4x200-meter relay team consisting of Sheila Paul (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.), Jackie Coward (Knoxville, Tenn.), Champelle Brown (Oakland, Calif.) and Sonnisha Williams (Jacksonville, Fla.) posted a time of 1:37.45 in the event, finishing 16th.

Two sophomores competed in the prelims of individual events for the Knights. Paul had the 11th best time in the 100-meter prelims with a time of 11.75 while Coward ranked 13th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.59.

Newcomer Tomika Story (Orange Park, Fla.) competed in the triple jump and had a top jump of 38-6.0/11.73m, good for 12th place.

The Knights' sprint medley relay squad concluded the day for the Knights, finishing in 13th place with a time of 3:59.66. The relay team consisted of Paul, Micaela Wimberly (Miami, Fla.), Brown and Carley Dart (Whitby, Ontario).
