GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Carley Dart (Whitby, Ontario) continued her strong season by again posting a personal best in the 800-meter run Saturday as the UCF track and field team competed in the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational in Gainesville.
Competing against an elite field which included host Florida, UCLA, Kentucky and USF, the Knights had a strong day with 14 top-five performances.
"We did better today as a whole," said head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert. "We still have some work to do in order to make our competition performances equal our training times."
Dart shaved time off her personal best in the 800 for the second-straight meet, cross the finish line in third place with a time of 2:08.92.
Sophomore Sheila Paul (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) was unable to improve her school-record times in the 100 and 200, but did take third place in the 100m in 11.63. She was the top collegiate finisher, behind only professional runners Tianna Madison and Cleo Tyson. She was the second-best collegian in the 200m, claiming sixth overall in 24.01.
Freshman Sonnisha Williams (Jacksonville, Fla.) posted her UCF best in the long jump and took third place with a top mark of 19-3.25/5.87m.
Two other freshmen also had their best efforts as Knights. Santrell Atkins (Miramar, Fla.) making the finals in the 100-meter hurdles and running a 14.39. Mason Gardberg (Englewood, Fla.) had her best time in the 3,000m steeplechase, taking fifth place with a time of 11:57.61.
