ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team will honor former Knight Courtney Nelson Patterson, who passed away unexpectedly last year, with a memorial ceremony and plaque presentation following its home regatta May 1 against both Alabama and Miami.
The regatta at the UCF Intercollegiate Rowing Center is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., with the Courtney Nelson Patterson plaque dedication set to start at 11 a.m. A plaque honoring the memory of the former rower will be presented and hung at the rowing facility.
Following the ceremony, Greens and Grille will host a fundraising luncheon for fans to raise funds for the Courtney Nelson Patterson Memorial Fund. A suggested donation of $20 will allow fans to receive lunch, beer and wine with all proceeds going to the fund.
The fund was established to help the rowing team raise $5,000 to name an existing rowing boat in honor of the former student-athlete.
Patterson rowed with the Black and Gold from 1994-99, was a member of the first NCAA rowing class and was best known for her sense of humor and positive outlook on life. In 1996, she received the Terry Smythe Spirit Award. She was elected co-captain her senior year and was also honored with the Mary Ann Walsh Best Athlete Award.
Courtney was passionate about her family, friends and the UCF community.
