ORLANDO, Fla.(UCFAthletics.com) - After another successful year for the members of SAAC, new members were voted to the executive board.
Each new member of the executive board was voted to their position by the members of SAAC and serves a one year term in their respective office. Sophomore volleyball player Sara Rex (Tampa, Fla.) was voted as the 2010-2011 President of SAAC while another volleyball player Nichole Riedel (Denver, Colo.) and track and field member Lynne Layne (New Rochelle, N.Y.) were voted to be co-vice presidents for the term. Diana Rojas (Miami, Fla.) served as the 2009-2010 president of the group. The junior softball player now serves the committee as the Conference USA liaison.
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee serves as the voice of student-athletes. It is composed of at least two student-athlete representatives of each team. The group meets bi-weekly to discuss issues relevant to the student-athlete experience. SAAC also provides input on policies and procedures presented by the NCAA or Conference USA that affect the student-athlete experience.
The Mission of the University of Central Florida SAAC is to represent student-athletes in a unified voice to promote communication between all student-athletes, athletic administration, UCF facility and staff, Conference USA and NCAA.
Managing the treasury department is women's tennis player Jenna Doerfler (Winter Park, Fla.) and serving as the secretary is Aisha Kelly (Longview, Texas) of women's basketball. The lone male on the committee is Spencer Scott (Palm City, Fla.) of men's soccer and he was voted to hold the position of the director of marketing for SAAC.
SAAC also participates in community service. Heading up the community service department is rower Chelsey Lauzon (Rockford, Mich.). This year SAAC organized the Armor Up for Haiti Campaign, The Thanksgiving Canned Food Drive, and worked with the Central Florida Children's Home, among other outreach projects.
