ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - New UCF men's basketball head coach Donnie Jones has secured his first recruit for the Knights as guard Jarvis Davis from Columbia, S.C., signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the school on Thursday. Davis, who is currently spending a postgraduate year at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, will join the Knights prior to the 2010-11 campaign.

Davis averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 assists and 6.0 steals per game this past season at Hargrave, where he played for head coach Kevin Keatts. The point guard helped Hargrave post a 24-1 mark during the campaign.

"We are very excited about Jarvis. He brings great leadership and has the ability to make everyone better with his play-making skills," Jones said. "Jarvis comes from one of the top prep school programs in America. He fits our style of play with his quickness and ability to penetrate and pass. We think he will be able to make an impact with our program as a freshman."

In 2009, Davis graduated from Ridge View High School in South Carolina. He averaged 19.5 points and 4.3 assists as a senior. Davis was named one of the top-five seniors in South Carolina Class AAAA and was selected to play in the 2009 Carolinas All-Star Classic. At Ridge View, he played under head coach John Combs.

Jones took over the helm of the UCF program on March 29 after three campaigns as the head coach at Marshall. He led the Thundering Herd to one of the finest campaigns in school history as the team went 24-10 and made its first postseason appearance in 22 years.
