ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Former UCF stand out Brandon Marshall made national headlines this morning after being dealt from the Denver Broncos to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for reported 2010 and 2011 second-round picks.

Marshall flew to Miami and signed a four-year extension worth $47.5 million, with $29 million coming over the first three years, a league source told NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.

The 6-4, 230-pound Marshall spent the previous four seasons with the Broncos (2006-09), where he played in 61 games with 327 receptions, 4,019 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Marshall, who was selected to his second consecutive Pro Bowl in 2009, played in 15 games (13 starts) and tied for third in the NFL with 101 receptions on the season. He became just the fifth player in league history to post three consecutive 100-catch seasons, joining the impressive ranks of Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison, Herman Moore and Wes Welker. He is second in the NFL since 1970 with 6.7 receptions per game started, and his eight 10-plus catch games are the most in NFL history in a player's first four seasons. Marshall also set an NFL record with 21 receptions for 200 yards and two touchdowns on the road at eventual AFC Champion Indianapolis (Dec. 13, 2009).

A Winter Park native, Marshall started 21 career games at wide receiver for UCF and added seven starts at safety for the school during his junior year. Marshall played 44 career games (21 starts) at UCF, posting 112 receptions for 1,674 yards (14.9 avg.) with 13 touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 52 tackles (31 solo), one interception, 0.5 sacks, two pass breakups and one forced fumble for his collegiate career. As a senior in 2005, he led UCF with career highs in receptions (74), receiving yards (1,195) and receiving touchdowns (11) in 13 games (12 starts). He earned second-team All-Conference USA recognition for his performance with his receiving yardage total ranking second, his reception total tying for eighth and his touchdown reception total tying for sixth on the school's all-time single-season list. That fall he helped the Knights to their first ever bowl appearance with a trip to the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.

Last year UCF had 15 alumni earn spots on NFL rosters, the most of any school in C-USA. Marshall and Philadelphia's Asante Samuel made UCF one of just six schools in the nation to have multiple alumni starting in the 2010 Pro Bowl, fittingly played at the Dolphins' Sun Life Stadium. Marshall had a touchdown catch in the contest. He will also be taking the field against his former UCF teammate, and best friend, Mike Sims-Walker when the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Dolphins in mid August at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium for their second preseason game. Like Marshall did in Denver, Sims-Walker led Jacksonville last year in receptions (63) receiving yards (869) and touchdowns (seven).
