GAINESVILLE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Freshman Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) fired a second round 67, the lowest score in the entire field, to highlight the UCF women's golf team's performances in the first two rounds of the SunTrust Gator Women's Invitational on Saturday at the University of Florida's par-70, 6,002-yard Mark Bostick Golf Course.

After Saturday's 36 holes of competition, UCF stands in seventh place as a team with a 603 (+43). No. 24 Florida State fired a 577 today (+17) to take a three-stroke lead over No. 12 Michigan State into Sunday's final round. UCF stands one stroke ahead of No. 23 Texas A&M which holds down the eighth spot out of 15 schools competing this weekend in Gainesville.

Pinegger's three-under-par 67 was the top score out of 160 total individual rounds played in Saturday. It was one of only five under par rounds out of those 160 in a field that features 12 of the nation's Top 100 individuals. After a shotgun start at the ninth hole, Pinegger birdied each of her final three holes (six, seven and eight) to cap her Saturday in impressive style with a minus-four showing on her personal back nine. Unfortunately, the 67 came on the heels of a 79 in the first round and leaves Pinegger tied for just 12th place overall with her 146.

Sophomore Elisa Aoki (Bradenton, Fla.) carded a 150 on Saturday to rank second for the Knights and tie for 27th place overall. Freshman Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) came home with a 152 followed by junior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) with a 155 and senior Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium) with a 160. Competing as an individual, freshman Sammy Vass (Tain, Scotland) turned in one of her best days as a Knight with a 154.

The third and final round is scheduled to go off with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday morning in Gainesville. The Knights are paired with Texas A&M and UNC Greensboro.
