ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Despite strong winds and cold rain, the UCF rowing team returned from the Dale England Cup last weekend with eight victories and an overall third place showing.
UCF concluded the meet with 90 points, taking third place overall. Host Indiana received 101 points, closely followed by Boston with 93 points. Miami had 31 points and Dayton came in with 26 points.
The Knights began with a great start on Friday afternoon, winning three out of their four races. The novice 8+ came in with a time of 8:04.87, many seconds ahead of Indiana who finished in 8:48.39. The varsity 4+ boat defeated Boston and Indiana coming in at 8:05.74, exactly six seconds before the Terriers time of 8:11.74. The Hoosiers followed at 8:48.17. The Black and Gold was victorious against Boston in the second varsity 8+ race, with a time of 7:22.03. The varsity 8+ came in less than two seconds behind Boston at 7:00.38.
The weather was especially difficult on Saturday morning but the Knights managed to gain a win against the Hoosiers in the varsity 4+ race, coming in at 7:46.1.
Saturday afternoon, UCF came back strong and won all four races against Miami and Dayton. The novice 8+ boat finished with a time of 7:12.1, with the Hurricanes trailing at 7:40.5. The Knights varsity 4+ and second varsity 8+ both defeated Dayton and the varsity 8+ won against Miami, coming in at 6:49.4.
The Knights continue their tough schedule April 9-10 at the George Washington Invitational.
