ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Highlighted by surpassing the 1,000-point barrier and becoming one of the top-10 rebounders in Conference USA history, junior Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.) had another impressive season in a UCF uniform. She was recognized for her strong play by earning a spot on the C-USA All-Conference Third-Team, the league office announced Saturday.
Cannon, an all-conference performer for the second-straight season, was one of just three players in C-USA to average a double-double in 2009-10. The 6-2 junior heads into Monday's C-USA Championships sporting averages of 11.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest.
"We are excited for Emma that she has again been recognized as one of the top post players in our conference," said head coach Joi Williams. "Due to her strong play last season, opposing defenses have keyed on her this season, and she has had to adjust to that increased attention. It speaks highly of her talent that she was able to overcome that and still average a double-double."
In just the ninth contest of her junior campaign, Cannon became the 12th member of the program's 1,000-point club when she tallied eight points against third-ranked Notre Dame on Dec. 29. Now with 1,134 points in her three-year UCF career, Cannon sits in sixth-place on the all-time scoring ledger and needs just 20 more to crack the top-five.
Cannon's numbers on the glass are even more staggering. She has accumulated 888 career rebounds to rank second all-time at UCF. With eight rebounds against Southern Miss in the Knights' regular-season finale, Cannon moved into the top-10 all-time in C-USA history. Averaging 5.7 offensive rebounds per contest this season, she ranks first in the league and third nationally.
The junior played some of her best games of 2009-10 against the Knights' top opponents. She opened the season with 18 points and 19 rebounds against No. 24 Middle Tennessee State. Cannon added another double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds against No. 6 Florida State on Dec. 16. For the season, she has registered eight double-doubles and has 40 in her career.
Cannon was named the C-USA Player of the Week on Dec. 22, the fourth such honor in her three-year career.
UCF opens play in the 2010 C-USA Tournament on Monday and will face Marshall at 1 p.m. EST. With Cannon claiming tournament MVP honors, the Knights won the 2009 C-USA Tournament and earned the program's third berth in the NCAA Tournament.
