ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team is currently ranked No. 70 in the nation for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign when it was ranked No. 73. The Knights are 6-1 on the season and look to improve their record this weekend when they host Louisiana-Lafayette Friday at 2 p.m. and No. 60 Harvard Saturday at 2 p.m.
Junior Jenny Frisell climbed the singles rankings this week and landed at No. 83. Frisell improved her record to 7-4 last weekend when the Knights faced FAU. She defeated Justine Humair, 7-5, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles position. Freshman Jenna Doerfler clinched the match with a victory at the No. 4 spot over Natasha Basma, 7-5, 6-4, 6-4. Senior Katie Orletsky and Frisell paired up at the No. 1 doubles position and collected a win over Humair and Cassie Bergeson, 8-6.
Louisiana-Lafayette is 2-3 on the season with victories over McNeese State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Knights claimed a 4-3 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns last season.
Two players from this No. 60 Harvard team (5-4) are currently in the ITA singles rankings. Holly Cao is ranked No. 84 with a 16-4 overall singles record, meanwhile Hideko Tachibana is ranked No. 113 with an impressive 17-2 singles record.
UCF will hit the road to face Bethune-Cookman March 11 at 1 p.m. and then will return home to host UAB March 14.
