ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After posting a 3-0 record in three starts last week for the UCF softball team, which included victories over No. 22 Ohio State and Southern Miss, senior Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.) garnered Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week honors, league officials announced Monday. The honor is the first for the senior in 2010 and the second of her career.
Cole opened the week with a one-hit, complete-game shutout against the Buckeyes Wednesday at the UCF Softball Complex. The shutout was the second-consecutive for the hurler, as she struck out two and fell only one hit and one error short of a perfect game.
In C-USA action, Cole earned a pair of wins in the three-game series at Southern Miss. She opened the weekend with a hard-fought, 7-4 win, in which she allowed three earned runs on nine hits in a complete-game outing. Cole struck out six batters in the contest, while walking only two.
In the final game of the series, Cole closed out the week with a five-inning victory. In the shortened game, the senior allowed only two hits while picking up her second complete-game shutout of the week.
In 19.0 innings of work in the circle, Cole posted a 1.11 ERA, a .176 opponent batting average, 12 strikeouts and walked only three batters throughout the entire week.
The hurler shared this week's award with East Carolina's Toni Paisley.
The Knights return home Wednesday to face No. 6 Florida at the UCF Softball Complex. The contest is scheduled to get underway at 7 p.m. and will air live on Bright House Sports Network. The first 100 fans through the gate will receive a free black UCF t-shirt.
