ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - During the 2009-10 campaign, sophomore guard A.J. Rompza (Chicago, Ill.) filled up the box score for the Knights. The point guard recorded steals and assists at almost a record pace.
Rompza finished the year with 81 steals, the fourth-highest total in school history. He will enter his junior season with 127 career steals, good for 10th on the UCF all-time list. Jerry Prather, who played for the Knights from 1974-78, is the all-time leader in the category with 290.
During the year, Rompza dished out 144 assists. That mark ranked sixth on the school single-season list. In only two campaigns in Orlando, Rompza has totaled 294 assists and is seventh all-time at UCF in the category. Sinua Phillips holds the top spot at UCF with 531 assists from 1990-94.
UCF's leading scorer in 2009-10 at 10.3 points per game, sophomore guard Isaac Sosa (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) has also entered a career top-10 list at the school. Sosa now ranks 10th in program history with 130 3-pointers. He connected on 73 this past season. On the career register, Jermaine Taylor is tops on the list with 251 triples.
