UCF Defeats St. Leo In Spring Match

March 25, 2010

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's soccer team recently competed in a home exhibition match against St. Leo University, and after drawing the first 90 minutes the Knights got goals from Andres Marmol and Michael Nwiloh in an extra 30-minute session.

The Knights controlled possession of the ball for most of the game, but the score remained 0-0 at the end of 90 minutes. The game provided both teams a chance to showcase their defensive abilities. After St. Leo found some life towards the end of regulation, the Knights were under pressure but were able to sustain it with great defending and hard work. UCF had some strong offensive attacks of its own, but the St. Leo goalkeeper made some great saves to keep his team in the game.

UCF made no line-up changes during regulation, but a rearrangement of the team for the additional 30 minutes of extra time produced better offensive results. The first UCF goal came from redshirt-sophomore Andres Marmol after he struck a beautiful shot over the St. Leo goalkeeper from 35 yards out. Redshirt-freshman Michael Nwiloh sealed the game with a goal off a cross, close to the end of extra time.

The Knights looked very strong defensively, allowing a limited amount of shots. After drastically improving its offensive game from the previous season, the team has been focusing on its defensive game during the off-season.
