ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF track and field team will continue its outdoor season on Friday and Saturday when it hosts the UCF Invitational at the UCF Track & Field Complex, the team's second-straight home meet to begin the season.
Bethune-Cookman, Cornell, Edward Waters, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida Int'l, Florida Memorial, Florida Southern, Hampton, Harvard, Marshall, Nova Southeastern, Palm Beach Atlantic and Rhode Island have all submitted women's teams to compete in the meet.
Bethune-Cookman, Edward Waters, Florida, FIU, Florida Memorial, Florida Southern, Harvard, Johnson & Wales, Marshall, Nova Southeastern, PBA and Southwest Baptist have all entered men's teams as well.
Friday kicks off with field events, beginning with the women's javelin at 3 p.m. The track events will start at 5:30 p.m. with the men's 3000-meter steeple, followed by the women's 3000-meter steeple at 5:45. The first day of the meet will conclude with the women's 10,000m run at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday's events are scheduled to begin with women's discus at 9:30 a.m. Track events will begin at 12 p.m. with the women's 400x100-meter relay. The women's events are slated finish the day and meet with the 4x400 relay at 4:20 p.m.
UCF recently hosted the Black & Gold Challenge, its first outdoor home event of the season. The meet featured many highlights for the Knights, including a school-record time in the 200-meter dash by sophomore Sheila Paul (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.). Paul finished in first place for both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events. Other notable performances include first place finishes by freshmen Sonnisha Wiliams (Jacksonville, Fla.) in the long jump and Taylor Bartolotta (Middletown, Conn.) in the javelin.
Due to an event at the UCF Arena on Saturday, vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be heavy furing the hours of 9-10:30 a.m. All interested parties are encouraged to arrange for extra time in arriving at the facility on Saturday morning.
There will be two alernate areas for parking for the UCF Invitational on Saturday. Please utilize one of the following parking locations:
OP6 Grass lot behind Baseball Outfield
Directions: Alafaya Trail (SR 434) to McCulloch Rd to intersection with Orion Blvd. Turn right onto Orion Blvd and then make first right onto West Plaza Drive. Proceed down West Plaza and enter grass lot behind outfield fence - over curb.
E8 Gravel Lot
Directions: Alafaya Trail (SR 434) to McCulloch Rd to intersection with Orion Blvd. Turn right onto Orion Blvd and then make second right into E8 lot.
