ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After an impressive day Saturday which included two first-place finishes and a school record, UCF sophomore Sheila Paul (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) was honored as the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Paul's honor was the first C-USA weekly award of her young career and the second won by a Knight in 2010. Senior Tiki James (Miami, Fla.) was named the C-USA Indoor Athlete of the Week on Jan. 19.
Competing against an elite field which included Florida, Arkansas and Kentucky, Paul swept the 100- and 200-meter dashes. In the 200-meter dash, Paul posted a time of 23.92 to better her own school record of 23.98 previously set in 2009. She won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.79 seconds.
The UCF sophomore also competed on two relay teams the Knights, with both finishing in second place. She helped the 4x100-meter relay team take second with a time of 45.62 while the 4x400-meter relay team also finished second, crossing the line 3:49.75.
The Knights will host another meet next weekend with the UCF Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Admission to the event is free and Friday's action is set to get underway at 3 p.m.
