UCF Rowing Concludes Opening Day of Longhorn Invitational

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team competed in five events against host Texas Friday on the opening night of the Longhorn Invitational, with the Knights' second varsity eight boat posting a five-second victory over the Longhorns late in the day.

The squad of Brittany Skidmore, Nicole Hoag, Amanda Schimian, Monica Larkin, Chelsey Green, Katherine Krueger, Camille Everett, Lucia Pinelli and Leah VanLear posted the only win of the day for the Black and Gold against Texas with a time of 7:41.70, five seconds ahead of the Longhorns who crossed in 7:46.70.

The varsity eight squad posted the fastest time of the day for UCF with a 7:32.0 clip in the finale, despite trailing just behind the Longhorns at the finish. Texas concluded the race in a time of 7:20.90, which would prove to be the second-fastest finish of the entire regatta on opening day. Iowa posted the fastest time in the varsity eight event with a time of 7:20.60.

UCF's varsity four boat finished the course in 9:04.70, while the novice eight and second novice eight squads concluded the event in 8:31.50 and 8:44.50, respectively.

The Knights are back in action at the Longhorn Invitational Saturday in the morning session of the regatta beginning at 8:18 a.m. against Iowa. The team will then compete against Kansas State in the afternoon session beginning at 5:20 p.m.
