ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF rowing team will head to Austin, Texas this weekend to compete in the Longhorn Invitational. Texas, Kansas State, Oklahoma and nationally ranked Iowa and Louisville will all participate in the regatta, which will run from Friday through Sunday. This will be the varsity squad's first race of the 2010 season.

The Knights' first race will begin Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. against host Texas and the team will battle both Iowa and Kansas State on Saturday. The Black and Gold will face the Hawkeyes in the morning, starting off with the second novice 8+ event at 8:40 a.m. and the Wildcats later in the day at 5:28 p.m.

The three-day event will end on Sunday morning for the Knights as they take on former UCF head coach Leeanne Craine and her Oklahoma team with the first race at 9:20 a.m.

UCF secured 10 victories in 2009 at the Longhorn Invitational including a sweep over Kansas State.

The Knights novice 8+ opened the regatta with a win against Wisconsin, coming in just half a second ahead of the Badgers with a time of 7:30.3.

The varsity four and varsity eight boats also defeated Iowa the second day of the regatta and the Black and Gold swept Kansas State that afternoon.

UCF concluded the Invitational on Sunday as the varsity 4+ came in with a time of 8:10.8 a full 21 seconds ahead of Texas with 8:31.8. The Black and Gold's second varsity 8+ also beat the Longhorns coming in at 7:15.7. The Knights' novice squad placed first in each of its races during the event.
