ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team had a strong start Wednesday morning against No. 47 Indiana, but the Hoosiers recovered to take a 5-2 win over the No. 70 Knights at the UCF Tennis Complex. UCF (7-4) took the first point of the day after sweeping doubles competition, but the Hoosiers (7-3) won five of six singles tilts.
The defeat was the first of the year at home for the Knights.
Senior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) recorded UCF's singles win, getting past Jeremy Langer at No. 1 (6-1, 6-4). UCF's best chance for another singles triumph came at No. 3, but Santiago Gruter held off sophomore Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela), 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.
In doubles, Rocafort and junior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) won 8-6 at No. 1 over Langer and Gruter. Facing Lachlan Ferguson and Josh MacTaggart at the No. 2 spot, senior Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and sophomore Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) picked up an 8-5 victory. At No. 3, senior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) joined Romano for an 8-6 win over Will Kendall and Stephen Vogl.
The contest was the second of five-straight matches at home for the Knights. UCF will return to action Saturday, hosting Denver at 11 a.m.
