ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Sophomore Natalie Land (Mayo, Fla.) extended her season-best hitting streak to six games, but it was not enough as the UCF softball team succumbed to visiting Drake, 5-0, Wednesday afternoon at the UCF Softball Complex.

During her six-game stretch, Land has posted a .529 batting average with nine hits, three doubles, four runs scored and two RBI.

The loss dropped the Black and Gold's record to 14-11 on the year, while the Bulldogs improved to 15-6 overall with the win.

Land was one of three Knights to tally a hit in the contest, with Abby McClain (Waterloo, Iowa) posting a single and Arielle Palafox (Lakewood, Calif.) registering a double for the home team.

Drake posted five runs on nine hits off UCF starter Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.), as the hurler's record fell to 9-6 on the season with the loss. Cole totaled six strikeouts and walked only one batter in her 12th complete-game outing of 2010.

A three-run fourth inning from the Bulldogs was too much to overcome for the Black and Gold, as Drake starter Jenna DeLong held the Knights to only two hits through the next four frames.

UCF stranded four runners on base in the contest, including two in the first inning. McClain opened the frame with a walk, before Palafox blasted a double to left centerfield to put runners on second and third with two outs. But, Drake's defense managed to retire the Black and Gold before a runner could cross the plate.

The Knights put runners on again in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings, but were not able to string together the hits they needed to cut into the Bulldog's lead.

Fans can catch the Black and Gold in action this weekend, as the squad hosts Houston in a three-game Conference USA series at the UCF Softball Complex beginning Saturday. The two teams will face off Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader, before concluding the series with a single game Sunday at Noon.
