UCF Volleyball Set to Face USF and Marquette in Play-Day

March 12, 2010

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After weeks of one-on-one training, the UCF volleyball team is excited to use the skills its learned when it hosts a spring play-day March 20 against two Big East opponents, USF and Marquette.

The Bulls are coming off an impressive 2009 season where they finished with a 9-5 mark in conference play, while Marquette finished with a 6-8 record in the final Big East standings.

"We are very excited to get on the floor and allow our young players to get collegiate action against two quality Big East opponents," head coach Todd Dagenais said. "This gives us an opportunity to set aside our individual training for a while and work on our team system."

The action for the Black and Gold is set to get underway at 12 p.m. Saturday against USF. The two teams will either play a match of two games to 25 points and one game to 15 points, or participate in several instructional drills.

The Bulls come to Orlando with a bitter taste in their mouths following a five-game nail-biter in which the Knights were victorious at the end of the fall season. Many Knights taking the floor played in that match last November, but there will be some new faces for the Black and Gold as well, including experienced newcomer, Marie Reitrova (Rokycany, CZE), and the incredibly athletic Angelica Crump (Atlanta, Ga.), who Dagenais is excited to debut.

"[Angelica] has patiently waited in the wings to compete on the collegiate stage, and she is chopping at the bits to show everyone what she is capable of doing at this level," said Dagenais.

The day finishes off with a scrimmage between UCF and Marquette that will take place at the Orlando Sports Center at 5 p.m.

UCF will host another tournament in the Venue on March 28. The event will consist of 10-12 teams, including many teams from the state of Florida, with the final field to be announced on March 22. All the proceeds from this tournament will go to support the efforts of the Central Florida Children's Home.
