ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's golf team will walk amongst the nation's best this weekend when the Knights head to New Orleans to participate in the Tiger/Wave Classic co-hosted by LSU and Tulane. Nine of the nation's top 25 teams in this week's Golfstat rankings are in the field led by No. 2 Auburn, No. 5 Purdue, No. 7 Alabama and No. 10 Wake Forest.
The English Turn & Country Club will host this strong event, a par-72, 6,132-yard Jack Nicklaus designed course in the Crescent City. The teams will play a single round of 18 holes on both Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m. ET with Sunday's final round teeing off with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. ET. UCF's tee times for Friday's first round will begin at 10:40 a.m. ET from the back nine and will see the Knights paired in foursomes with golfers from Ole Miss, UNC-Wilmington and Louisville.
In addition to the nine top 25 teams, UCF will also get an up-close look at the host Green Wave during the event. Tulane won the 2009 Conference USA Championship and is the highest ranked team in the league at the moment at No. 28.
The Knights will line up in their order of finish from the UCF Challenge in Sorrento, March 1-2, where the team placed sixth. Junior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) will lead the Knights into the event after picking up her second top 10 finish of the year in UCF's lone home event. The finish was Detlefsen's second top 10 finish of the year after having just one such finish in her first two years at UCF combined.
Sophomore Elisa Aoki (Bradenton, Fla.) is in the second slot for UCF followed by a pair of freshmen in Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) and Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile). Each of these Knights have also each recorded at least one top 10 finish at an event this year.
Rounding out the UCF lineup is freshman Sammy Vass (Tain, Scotland) who will make her team-scoring collegiate debut at the Tiger/Wave Classic after appearing in five of UCF's six events thus far as an unattached individual. Vass would have placed fifth for the Knights had she counted towards the team at the UCF Challenge.
