ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Many of you know that American Idol contestant Michael Lynche played defensive tackle for the Knights from 2001-02.
Lynche, who will appear on tonight's program on FOX at 8 p.m., is recalled fondly by those who knew him in Orlando, including assistant coach Sean Beckton who was also on the UCF staff when Lynche played defensive tackle for the Knights in 2001-02.
What two intrepid Knight fans, Stephen Alianiello of Orlando and Jonathan Kress of Celebration, correctly guessed today was that UCF assistant head coach David Kelly also has a direct tie to a prominent figure on the show. Kelly was the head coach at Dunwoody High School in suburban Atlanta in 1992 when the Wildcats advanced to the state semifinals. Kelly's starting safety that year was... Ryan Seacrest.
Alianiello and Kress will receive one of the special limited edition 8x10 prints commemorating the legends of UCF football's Bright House Networks Stadium era for guessing correctly. The prints include head coach George O'Leary smiling upon current Pittsburgh Steeler Joe Burnett, Detroit Lions starting tailback Kevin Smith, Green Bay Packers starting guard Josh Sitton and soon-to-be NFL Draft pick Torell Troup and 2010 All-America candidate Bruce Miller.
Even if you didn't know the answer, you can still get one of these special prints simply by logging onto MyUCFFootball.com and referring friends to receive season ticket information to join the Knights' quest for the 2010 Conference USA Championship.
