Columbus, Ga. (UCFAthletics.com) - Junior Abby McClain (Waterloo, Iowa) paced the UCF softball team with two hits Friday afternoon in Columbus, Ga., but it was not enough as the Knights fell to No. 11 Georgia Tech, 1-0, and Arkansas, 6-0, on the opening day of the NFCA Leadoff Classic.

vs. No. 11 Georgia Tech
Senior Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.) threw a gem of a game against the No. 11 ranked Yellow Jackets, despite earning the loss in the circle. The hurler allowed only one run on two hits and struck out three batters in her fifth complete-game outing of the season.

But, her one mistake of the game was what decided the outcome, as Georgia Tech's Jen Yee hit a solo home run off Cole in the third inning to plate the contest's only run.

Barrow had the lone hit for the Knights in the contest, hitting a hard grounder through the left side of the infield in the fifth inning.

Also reaching base for the Black and Gold in the contest was McClain, Cole and Arielle Palafox (Lakewood, Calif.). McClain reached after getting hit by a pitch in the fourth inning and Cole and Palafox reached on a pair of fielder's choices.

vs. Arkansas
McClain posted both of her hits in the nightcap against the Razorbacks in the nightcap, while Vanessa Perez (San Diego, Calif.) and Morgan Bullard (Columbia, S.C.) added one hit a piece for the Black and Gold.

Diana Rojas (Miami, Fla.) was tagged with the loss in the circle for UCF, allowing six runs, two of which were earned, on five hits in 2.0 innings of work.

Fellow hurler Kristina DeMello (Mead, Wash.) entered the game in the third inning. The senior allowed only two hits and walked two, while striking out three in 4.0 innings of scoreless relief.

The Black and Gold continue play at the NFCA Leadoff Classic Saturday with a 4 p.m. contest against Maryland and a 6:30 p.m. game versus Nebraska.
