UCF Rowing Hosts Successful Open House

Feb. 25, 2010

ORLANDO, Fla - The UCF women's rowing team held its annual Open House on Feb. 20, 2010 at the Intercollegiate Rowing Complex on Lake Pickett. The event showed prospective student-athletes what they should expect as a UCF student-athlete.

125 people attended the open house and were given tours of the rowing facility and an opportunity to meet the coaches and current team members.

"It is our current athletes that make the event shine. They were open, helpful, and warm to everyone that was there. They are the best example of what rowing at UCF is like," said Coach Susan Cohen, the recruiting coordinator for the Knights who planned the event.

The director of compliance, academic advisors, and the team's life skills coordinator spoke to those in attendance. The event also included lunch, a presentation, and a question and answer session about being a Division I student-athlete.

"We pride ourselves on being a transparent and helpful team and staff," said Cohen. "We have one of the best training facilities, an extremely helpful and knowledgeable staff, and fantastic student-athletes. We want the attendees to be able to see that."

The open house concluded with a condensed campus tour and the opportunity to attend that night's women's basketball game.

"Prospective student-athletes now know that if they become a Knight, they have an inclusive and warm rowing family for the next four years," said Cohen.
