Orlando, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Senior Hillary Barrow (Miami, Fla.) hit her first home run of the season Sunday afternoon, but it was not enough as the UCF softball team fell to visiting Florida A&M, 3-2, Sunday in the final day of the UCF Invitational.

The home run for Barrow was also the first for the Black and Gold in 2010, which falls to 4-5 on the season with the loss.

Four additional Knights posted hits in the contest, including Natalie Land (Mayo, Fla.), Morgan Bullard (Columbia, S.C.), Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.) and Mary Helen Tyler (Marianna, Fla.). Freshman Marissa Menendez (Tampa, Fla.) added a RBI for the home team.

The contest kicked-off with a throwing error by Florida A&M's pitcher in the bottom of the first inning, which allowed Land to speed all the way to third base following a bunt. Menendez then put the Knights on the board with her sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Land.

The Lady Rattlers evened the game at 1-1 with a run in the top of the second inning, before taking the lead in the third inning on a hit and a UCF error.

But, Barrow knotted the game again in the fourth with one swing of the bat, sending a long shot over the left field fence.

The game remained deadlocked through the fifth inning, but a single and three errors by the Knights allowed the winning run to cross the plate for Florida A&M in the top of the sixth.

Senior Kristina DeMello (Mead, Wash.) was tagged with the loss in the circle, despite not giving up an earned run in the complete-game outing. The hurler allowed three runs on 10 hits, while striking out six batters. With the loss, DeMello falls to 0-3 on the year.

UCF is back in action Wednesday when it travels to Jacksonville to take on North Florida in a 5 p.m. contest.
