Feb. 19, 2010Orlando, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team will host its WBCA Pink ZoneTM game on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. when the Knights host Houston at the UCF Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game, and a free pink t-shirt will be given to the first 150 fans entering the arena. The first 500 fans will also receive a C-USA Pink ZoneTM placard. Admission to Saturday's game is free for all fans.
The WBCA Pink ZoneTM initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA's nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The WBCA began the WBCA Pink ZoneTM, formerly known as "Think Pink", in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities.
A representative from the Central Florida affiliate of the Susan G. Comen Foundation will be speaking at halftime of the game, and survivors and those affected by breast cancer will be recognized. UCF's chapter of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority will be on hand in support of the Susan G. Comen Foundation.
Prior to the game, Winning Ways will be holding its seventh and eighth grade girls' championship games at the UCF Arena. The games will last from 3:30-5 p.m.
UCF is one of over 1,550 teams around the country to have signed on as a participant in 2010. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year a success. In 2008, over 1,200 teams and organizations participated, reaching over 830,000 fans and raising over $930,000 for breast cancer awareness and research. The 2009 campaign raised over $1.3 million, reached over 912,000 fans, unified more than 1,600 participating teams and organizations, and saw 56+ schools break attendance records at their event.
