ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - With the Winter Olympics in full swing, the UCF baseball team has announced that former Knight and Olympic baseball player Laurence Heisler will have the honor of throwing out the first pitch on Opening Day Friday at 6:30 p.m. Heisler was a member of the Greek National Team for the Athens Olympics in 2004.
An active committee member of the UCF Dugout Club, Heisler pitched for the Knights from 1990-91. He is a graduate of St. Cloud High School and still resides in the Orlando area.
Heisler's National Team jersey is currently hanging in the lobby of the UCF baseball complex. He was the first UCF male alum to compete in the Olympic games.
Season tickets for the 2010 campaign are still on sale. The Knights will play 36 games at home this year including Opening Day vs. Savannah State, and reserved bleacher seats are only $150.
