ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) -When the UCF men's tennis team continues its dual-match weekend on Sunday against Miami, the Knights will play on the same courts that head coach Bobby Cashman played on during his college years.
Cashman played and practiced at Moore Park Tennis Center when he played for Miami-Dade Community College and then Barry University. Cashman is honored for the now named Ashe-Buchholz Tennis Center to welcome him back to the courts.
"I spent so many hours playing there it will be kind of surreal to see the team out on the same courts," Cashman said. "I was their age when I competed and played there in all the men's tournaments."
The Knights and the Hurricanes will be a part of the 2nd Annual NCAA Collegiate Tennis Fest hosted by the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department and the Greater Miami Tennis and Education Foundation. The event will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday with the match beginning at 12 p.m.
The City of Miami hopes to promote tennis to socially and economically challenged youngsters who otherwise wouldn't be able to participate in the game. The children in attendance will get to watch the match and hopefully realize the opportunities that the sport has to offer through the recognition and highlights of both Cashman and local tennis advocate Bobby Curtis on the day of the tournament.
