ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Freshman Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) was named the Conference USA Female Golfer of the Week on Wednesday, one day after a shooting three under-par 69 in the final round to lead the Knights to victory at the Hurricane Invitational at the par-72 Don Shula Golf Resort in Miami Lakes, Florida.
Pinegger's final round performance gave UCF a one shot lead over Georgia State to win their first tournament since 2002 in the Knights' spring season opener.
Pinegger started slow, shooting an 80 on Sunday's opening round, but only improved from there with a 74 on Monday, and then a career low score of 69 Tuesday for a three-round score of 223 (+7). Pinegger tied for seventh with freshman teammate Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) on the individual leader board.
Pinegger's 69 was two strokes better than her previous best and any other golfer in the field on Tuesday. She also tied for the lowest score of any golfer in any round of the Hurricane Invitational. She is the second Knight this year to earn C-USA's weekly honor. Fontaine won it during the fall after she placed second in the FIU/Pat Bradley invitational in October.
