Freshman Valentina Fontaine (Santiago, Chile) shot a 75 to lead the UCF women's golf team in the opening round of its first spring tournament, the Hurricane Invitational at the par-72, 6,199-yard Don Shula's Golf Resort in Miami Lakes.

Overall UCF shot a 307 (+19) to tie for ninth out of 17 schools through 18 holes. Georgia State is pacing the field after one round of play at 292 (+4).

Fontaine shot a sizzling 34 on the back nine to help her top UCF and tie for 18th overall. Fontaine was a shot ahead of sophomore Elisa Aoki (Bradenton, Fla.) who tied for 25th overall with a 76 (+4). Senior Victoria Tomko (Lontzen, Belgium) fired a 77 (+5), junior Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn.) carded a 79 while freshman Carolin Pinegger (Marquartstein, Germany) was fifth for UCF on Sunday with an 80 (+8). Competing as an individual, Sammy Vass (Tain, Scotland) shot a 78 (+6).

The second round will go off at 12:30 p.m. on Monday in Miami Lakes with the final 18 holes set for Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
