TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF women's tennis team claimed its third-consecutive win Saturday when it took down Florida A&M, 4-0, in chilly Tallahassee. The Knights are now off to a 4-1 start this season and will be looking forward to a pair of home matches when they return to Orlando.

"We experienced freezing cold weather conditions and the winds picked up as the match went on," said head coach Stephanie Nickitas. "But we took care of business today in less than ideal conditions."

Before the match got underway, the coaches agreed to stop the match when the clinching point occurred since the players had to deal with very cold temperatures. So when UCF collected the first four points of the day, the remaining three singles matches were vacated.

The top two doubles teams surrendered just three games combined to enable the Knights to jump out to a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Alexis Rodriguez and freshman Jenna Doerfler took down Rachel Pye and Latreece Olagbegi at No. 1, 8-2, while sophomores Christy Core and Andrea Yacaman cruised by Britney Dean and Bethany Holt at No. 2, 8-1.

In singles play, it was the tandem of senior Katie Orletsky and sophomore Taylor Dubins who controlled the No. 5 and 6 positions. Along with Doerfler at No. 3, the trio gave up only two games each in their respective matches. Yacaman, Rodriguez and freshman Allison Hodges also were ahead one set apiece when UCF posted its fourth point, thus capping off the 4-0 overall win.

The Black and Gold will hold a week of practices before welcoming Memphis to town Feb. 21, as well as USF Feb. 24. Admission is free to the UCF Tennis Complex.
