Men's Tennis Plays Two Home Matches

Feb. 1, 2010

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team returns to action this weekend as it plays two matches at home. The Knights begin Friday as they face off against Troy at 2 p.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex.

Friday will mark the Knights' first match in two weeks since they faced No. 11 Florida in Gainesville on Jan. 22.

Dropping the season opener in a 7-0 match, Florida swept UCF in singles play. In doubles action senior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and sophomore Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) were able to claim an 8-3 victory over Florida's Billy Federhofer and Bob Van Overbeek. However, the win was not enough to give the Knights the point as the Gators took wins at the other two positions.

Troy heads into Friday's match after a 4-3 win against Tulane on Saturday. The Trojans have taken home victories in both their matches this season.

Sunday will be the continuation of the two-match weekend for the Knights as they compete against Georgia Southern at 11 a.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex.

This will be the third match of the weekend for Georgia Southern after facing Bethune-Cookman on Friday and Troy on Saturday. Sunday's match marks the first time the Knights have met the Eagles since their 6-1 victory during the 2007 season.

Following the dual-match weekend, the Knights return to action next week, traveling to DeLand to face Stetson on Feb. 13.
