Orlando Sentinel's UCF Baseball Update
ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - A lot is in store for the UCF baseball program this week, and the events actually started on Sunday when the Knights shot lots of footage for the video board at the stadium. Head coach Terry Rooney got into the act as well, and fans will have to come out to the park this season to check out some of the funny clips the UCF Video Department collected.

On Monday, the Black and Gold does have an off day, but assistant coach Jeff Palumbo received a very special honor. An infielder for George Mason from 2001-04, Palumbo was named to the Colonial Athletic Association Silver Anniversary Team for baseball, a squad that features 10 CAA Players of the Year, 17 All-Americans and 11 former or current Major League Baseball players such as Brian Jordan, Brandon Inge and Justin Verlander. The CAA is recognizing Silver Anniversary teams in 21 sports as part of its 25th Anniversary celebration this year.
Palumbo was a two-time conference defensive player of the year as well as the CAA Student-Athlete of the Year when he was a senior. He left George Mason as the school's career-record holder with 283 hits and ranks in the top 10 in several other categories. Palumbo led the nation in runs scored per game (1.4) in 2004 in a season in which he hit .402 at the plate.
On the field, the Knights will be wrapping up individual workouts this week before opening preseason camp Friday at 2:30 p.m.
That will help set up a memorable day on Saturday, where after the important men's basketball game vs. Tulsa (tip-off at 5 p.m.), the first edition of Baseball Fan Fest will be held. Fans are invited to come out to the ballpark to meet the team and get autographs, and EVERYONE who attends will be eligible to win prizes such as airline tickets and gift certificates. While the event is free, for just $5 fans will receive a meal ticket for hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and a drink courtesy of Outback Steakhouse. Popcorn and cracker jacks will be available for free while supplies last.
Tickets for Baseball Fan Fest are on sale now by calling the UCF Ticket Office at 407-823-1000. Season tickets for the 2010 campaign are already on sale as well. The Knights will play 36 games at home this year, and reserved chairbacks are just $199, while reserved bleacher seats are only $150. Faculty/staff, youth and senior season tickets are $99.
