UCF Track & Field to Compete at Illinois Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF track and field team will continue its 2010 indoor season Saturday, traveling to Champaign, Ill., for the Carle/Health Alliance Classic, hosted by No. 19 Illinois at the University of Illinois Armory. The meet will begin at 9 a.m. with field events and the 4x400-meter relay is schedule to conclude the day at 4:10 p.m.

UCF enters the meet after opening the season last weekend at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky. The Knights opening weekend performance was "solid" as all told for the event head coach Caryl Smith Gilbert's squad had two NCAA provisional qualifying marks and set five personal bests.

Senior Tiki James (Miami, Fla.) is the reigning Conference USA Athlete of the Week after an impressive meet at the Kentucky Invitational. In her first race of the season, James posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 8.27 to sit third after the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles. In the finals of the event, she bettered her time to 8.22 and finished as the top collegiate finisher and fourth overall.

Two newcomers had strong efforts in the jumps, with freshman Sonnisha Williams (Jacksonville, Fla.) finishing fourth in the long jump with a best jump of 5.92m/19-5.25 and junior transfer Tomika Story (Orange Park, Fla.) finished fourth and set a PR in the triple jump (12.07m/39-7.25).
