ORLANDO, Fla - One of seven newcomers to join the UCF softball team in 2010, junior Ashley Schmitt (Tampa, Fla) is looking to earn a spot in the starting rotation of the Knights' pitching staff this season.

The pitcher/outfielder is a transfer from Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville. While at Santa Fe, she helped the Saints win their fifth-straight conference title in 2009 after posting a 1.19 ERA and 51 strikeouts. She finished her sophomore season with a 19-3 record in the circle.

Prior to her career at SFCC, Schmitt completed one season at Hillsborough Community College.

While attending Riverview High School in Tampa, Schmitt lettered in both softball and cheerleading. As a sophomore, Schmitt earned second team All-Mid-Florida Conference honors, before again being named an all-conference selection as a senior while playing for head coach Angie Slater.

She was also a member of the chess club, Little Angels club and TV production.

Schmitt played travel ball for the Florida Havoc.

Schmitt is the daughter of Ronald and Lois Schmitt. She has a brother, Brian, and three sisters, Christie, Lorrie and Tamie. She is pursuing a degree in psychology and aspires to become an animal trainer.
