ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - One of seven newcomers to join the UCF softball team in 2010, freshman Arielle Palafox (Lakewood, Calif.) is looking to make an immediate impact on the team and earn a spot in the Knights' starting lineup.
Hailing from Lakewood, Calif., the first baseman acquired several awards during her years at Lakewood High School.
As a rookie, Palafox earned the JV Captain Award as well as the Most Valuable Player award.
The first baseman's most impressive season came in 2009 when she saw playing time in all 28 games. Palafox posted 28 hits, 27 RBI's and four homeruns for the Lancers, and finished the season with a .394 batting average. Palafox earned the Softball Gamer award and was named a Press Telegram Dream Team Honorable Mention selection. She was honored as her team's MVP in her final campaign and also earned a spot the All-Moore League First Team.
Besides softball, Palafox also earned varsity letters in water polo in high school, earning honors as her team's Most Valuable Player in her junior year. She also played travel softball for the California Lite.
Palafox is the daughter of Hector and Barbara Palafox. She is pursuing a degree in radio/television and aspires to become an announcer.
