ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - UCF senior Tiki James (Miami, Fla.) has been named the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The honor was the first handed out by C-USA for the 2010 season and the second for James in her two-year UCF career.
In her first race of the season at the Kentucky Invitational, James posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 8.27 to sit third after the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles. In the finals of the event, she bettered her time to 8.22 and finished as the top collegiate finisher and fourth overall.
James also competed in the 200-meter dash in Lexington, finishing in 24th place with a time of 25.25.
The success should come as no surprise for the senior. James also won C-USA's first weekly honor of the season in 2009 after a strong opening weekend. She went onto set the indoor school records in the 55- and 60-meter hurdles and earn NCAA Indoor All-American honors in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing fifth nationally.
James and the Knights return to action Saturday in Champaign, Ill., competing in the Carle/Health Alliance Classic.
