ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - One of seven newcomers to join the UCF softball team in 2010, junior Tawny Swan (Gilbert, Ariz.) is looking to earn an opportunity to roam the outfield for the Knights.

A transfer from Scottsdale Community College, the outfielder was named to the NJCAA Division II Preseason All-America Third Team in 2009, before leading the Artichokes in 10 major offensive categories in her sophomore season. Swan paced the team in batting average (.438), at bats (112), hits (49), doubles (8), triples (3), home runs (1), runs scored (25), on-base percentage (.442), stolen bases (8) and stolen base attempts (13).

"Tawny is a great athlete and we feel like she can be a huge asset to our team," head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie said. "Her speed and athletic ability will put her in prime position to make an impact right away at the top of our lineup. We are very excited to have her become part of our UCF softball family." At the conclusion of the 2009 season, Swan was named the SCC Outstanding Softball Athlete.

As a freshman at SCC in 2008, Swan tallied a .512 batting average (62-for-121), the fifth-highest average in the NJCAA Region I, to be named to the NJCAA All-Region I First Team and the All-ACCAC Second Team.

Prior to her career at SCC, Swan shined at Highland High School where she garnered some of the sports highest honors at the high school level. Following her senior season, when she batted .528 with five home runs and 23 RBI, the speedy slapper was named to the EA Sports High School Softball All-American First Team, while also earning All-Arizona Team, Arizona Class 5A All-State First Team and East Valley Tribune Class 5A First Team honors.

Swan played travel ball for the Lil Saints Gold.

Swan is the daughter of Ron Horton and Shelly Ernesti and the Goddaughter of Dionne Swan. She has a brother, Chance and a sister, Shar. Her Godmother played softball under head coach Mike Candrea at Central Community College and her cousin, Katie Swan, played under Candrea at the University of Arizona from 1997-2000.

She is pursuing a degree in hospitality management.

Season tickets for the 2010 season are only $40 and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchase online at UCFAthletics.com or through the Athletics Ticket Office by calling (407) 823-1000.
