TAMPA, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Sunday, the UCF men's tennis team concluded play at the USF Spring Invitational. Three Knights picked up singles wins against USF players.
Facing Mark Oljaca in Flight 3, UCF sophomore Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) rolled to a 6-4, 6-4 victory. In Flight 7 play, sophomore Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) was too much for the Bulls' Thomas Estrada, winning 6-1, 2-6, (10-6).
In Flight 2, senior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) topped Jamal Adderley, 1-6, 7-6, (11-9).
Due to inclement weather, only singles matches were played Sunday. The tournament began Friday.
"We had a great weekend in the doubles draws," said UCF head coach Bobby Cashman. "We have put a lot of work into that both in the fall and this past week and it showed - even as we shifted partners. In singles play we were not satisfied with our results on the opening day, but we made adjustments and improved Saturday and Sunday. We have a long season in front of us and that has to continue to be our goal of steady improvement day to day."
USF's Wael Kilani won the singles title at the event. Memphis and Radford were also in action at the USF Tennis Complex.
The Knights will open the dual match season on Friday at Florida. The Gators are ranked 11th nationally.
