ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - Playing in front of a record crowd of 1,636 fans at the UCF Arena Sunday evening, UCF (3-10, 0-4 C-USA) dug itself a hole they could not overcome, falling to visiting UAB (10-6, 4-0 C-USA) 69-61 in Conference USA action.

Junior Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.) ended a streak of five games in single digits to post her 39th career double-double and also moved into tenth place on UCF's all-time scoring list. The 6-2 Cannon had 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Knights, hitting 5-of-9 shots and 6-of-8 free throws.

The game was a back-and-forth affair early, but the Blazers used a trio of three-pointers from Nakia McDaniel during a 21-6 run to take control of the game midway through the first half. UAB took a 31-19 lead into halftime.

UCF scored 19 points for the second-straight half, hitting just 8-of-22 shot attempts in the first half for 36.4 percent.

Freshmen guards Amber Jones and Jala Harris then sank back-to-back threes to cap a 13-2 run to start the second half and give UAB a 23-point lead with 11:42 left. Harris, Jones and McDaniel - all freshmen - combined to score 44 points off the bench for the Blazers, who had a 46-6 edge in bench points.

Cannon was the lone Knight with more than six points with 10 minutes remaining, but guards Marshay White (Rochester, N.Y.), Angelica Mealing (Decatur, Ga.), and Aisha Patrick (Rockledge, Fla.) provided some support late as UCF tried to rally. White scored 14 points, Mealing had a season-high 12 while Patrick added nine points, seven rebounds and four steals.

The Knights' offense improved significantly in the second half as the team hit 14-of-30 shots and finished the game at 42.3 percent overall. UCF also hit 15-of-22 from the free-throw line.

The hosts cut the lead to seven with under a minute left, but it was too little too late as UCF could not avoid a fifth-straight defeat.

Staying on their home court, the Knights will look to right the ship Thursday when they host Southern Miss at 7 p.m. The game is a rematch of the 2009 Conference USA championship game, but both teams will be looking for their first league win of 2009-10.

Season and single-game tickets are currently available with the UCF Ticket Office. Knight fans can purchase season tickets for each of the team's 14 home games for just $39. For more information on purchasing tickets, contact the UCF ticket office at (407) 823-1000.
