TAMPA, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - On Friday, the UCF men's tennis team opened play at the USF Spring Invitational and posted a dominating performance in doubles action. Facing players from Radford, the Knights won all four of their doubles tilts on the USF campus.
In Flight 1, UCF's 21st-ranked duo of senior Marc Rocafort (Barcelona, Spain) and junior Blaze Schwartz (Pensacola, Fla.) defeated Ivan Salec and Zack Watson, 8-4. Facing Erik Finkebrink and Igor Ogrizek in Flight 2, senior Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and sophomore Joe Delinks (Falmouth, Mass.) held on for a 9-8 (7-4) victory.
Senior Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and sophomore Claudio Romano (Valencia, Venezuela) rolled to an 8-1 Flight 3 win over Thomas Dehaen and Mike Johnson. Against Paul Boslet and Brett Cromwell in Flight 4, sophomore Eugene Dolgovykh (Palm Coast, Fla.) and freshman Mario Samson (Miami, Fla.) won 8-5.
Three Knights won in singles play as Dolgovykh was a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) winner over Boslet in Flight 7, and Delinks got past Cromwell (7-5, 6-2) in Flight 8. In Flight 6, Samson defeated Johnson, 6-1, 6-0.
Play at the three-day event will continue Saturday.
