UCF Spirit Program Set to Compete in the 2010 College Cheerleading and Dance National Championships

Jan. 14, 2010

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - This weekend, the UCF cheerleaders and KnightMoves dance team will head to Disney's Wide World of Sports to compete in the 2010 College Cheerleading and Dance National Championships in an effort to defend their position as one of the nation's leading collegiate spirit programs.

The competition kicks off Saturday, Jan. 16, when the UCF cheer team, which has already received a bye into the final round of competition, will have a rehearsal performance on the stage at 1:38 p.m. At 9:10 p.m. that same day, KnightMoves will compete in the Division IA jazz dance semi-finals.

All final rounds of competition will be held on Sunday with KnightMoves competing first in the pom category finals at 1:02 p.m. followed by the jazz finals at 4 p.m. The cheerleaders will take the stage at 5:45 p.m.

With their third-place showing in the Division IA cheer finals last year, the Knights' cheerleaders have finished in the top 10 at nationals 14 times in the last 16 years. That includes national titles in both 2003 and 2007. Meanwhile, UCF has entered the top three in each of the last three seasons, placing first in 2007, third in 2008 and third in 2009.

For students, fans and staff that are unable to attend the competition this weekend, there is still an opportunity to view the teams' national routines. The UCF spirit program will be hosting an open practice on Friday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. in The Venue. Practicing alongside them will be teams from Tennessee, LSU, Ohio State and Mississippi State.
