Football Has Another Great Semester in the Classroom

Dec. 22, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. - Yet again the UCF football team had a strong semester off of the field. The Knights' overall team cumulative GPA stands at 2.866 following the fall semester, narrowly missing its George O'Leary era in-season peak of 2.876 let last fall.

UCF's semester GPA of 2.810 was its highest for a fall semester since 2004 when the Knights recorded a 2.857 during the season.

Three Knights, Mike Buxton (Bonita Springs, Fla.), Corey Rabazinski (Winter Park, Fla.) and Jah Reid (Haines City, Fla.) earned their bachelor's degrees in December. Meanwhile, not a single member of the team had to be declared ineligible for the St. Petersburg Bowl due to poor academic performance. In all, 55-percent of the squad earned a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher. Two Knights, Javen Harris and David Williams, earned a perfect 4.0 despite the concurrent rigors of the playing season.

It was a season of academic success for the Knights, who also recorded the sixth-winningest season in school history on the gridiron with an 8-5 record. Rocky Ross became just the second ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America pick in school history and was also named to the Conference USA Football All-Academic team. Ross had the highest GPA on that 11-man squad at 3.88. UCF was also recognized by the AFCA this fall for its exemplary graduation rates.
