ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - One week before kicking off the 2009-10 season against a nationally-ranked opponent, the UCF women's basketball team will host St. Leo Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. in an exhibition contest at the UCF Arena. Knight fans will get their first look at the defending Conference USA Tournament champions and admission to the contest is free.
Head coach Joi Williams' team has been practicing for the upcoming season since Oct. 17, and Sunday's exhibition against St. Leo will give the Knights a final tune-up prior to beginning their season on Nov. 15 at No. 24 Middle Tennessee State.
UCF returns 10 letterwinners from the 2008-09 team which went 17-17 and won the C-USA tournament. The Knights return junior Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y.), who averaged 15.5 points and 11.6 rebounds per game a season ago. Cannon was recently named the 2009-10 C-USA Preseason Player of the Year.
Following the Knights' opener at MTSU, they will return to the UCF Arena for the home opener against Bethune-Cookman on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
Season and single-game tickets are currently available with the UCF Ticket Office. Knight fans can purchase season tickets for each of the team's 14 home games for just $39. For more information on purchasing tickets, contact the UCF ticket office at (407) 823-1000.
