ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - A key member of the UCF backline, junior defender Lauren Halbert was voted onto the Conference USA All-Academic Second Team the league announced Wednesday. The native of Niceville, Fla., carries a 3.79 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in health sciences.
Halbert has started all 19 games this year and leads the team in minutes with 1,718. She has played every minute in 18 of those 19 contests, and racked up three assists in the process. Halbert has helped the UCF defense post eight shutouts and hold opponents to 16 goals for a 0.83 goals-against average.
For her career, Halbert has competed in 49 matches, scoring four goals and adding five assists. She was a recipient of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Medial for having a GPA of higher than 3.75 in 2007, and has been a member of the league's honor roll each season.
Halbert and the No. 9 Knights (15-3-1) enter this weekend as the top seed for the C-USA Championship, and will face either UAB or UTEP Friday at 6 p.m. ET in the semifinals.
