ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) - After leading UCF to victories over Auburn and Drake, junior forward A.J. Tyler (Palm Harbor, Fla.) and sophomore guard A.J. Rompza (Chicago, Ill.) were named to the Glenn Wilkes Classic All-Tournament Team. The Knights (4-1) went 2-1 over the weekend in Daytona Beach.
Tyler averaged 13.3 points and 6.3 boards in three games at the tournament. He had his best outing in UCF's 84-74 win over Auburn, totaling a career-best 19 points. Tyler shot 6-of-10 overall against the Tigers and also grabbed eight rebounds. The following day, he led UCF with 12 points versus Niagara.
Rompza averaged 7.0 points and 4.3 rebounds in Daytona, and impressed tournament officials with his grit and determination. The point guard had 11 points and five assists in the victory over Auburn, but had his best contest in Sunday's 59-50 win against Drake. Rompza totaled six points and three steals at the end of the game as UCF limited the Bulldogs to zero points in the final 6:08 of the second half.
After playing three games in three days, the Knights now have a long break until their next contest. On Saturday, UCF will host Albany at 5 p.m. at the UCF Arena.
