TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Four UCF runners competed in the NCAA South Regionals Saturday morning at the 6K Harry Pritchard Running Course in Tuscaloosa, Ala., concluding the 2009 cross country season for UCF. The four runners competed as individuals for the Knights in the 6K meet hosted by the University of Alabama.
Senior Jamie Rzepecki (East Aurora, N.Y.) again led the UCF athletes across the finish line in 94th place. Rzepecki took 94th place in the meet, which had 170 runners, with a time of 22:59.66. Fellow senior Carley Dart (Whitby, Ontario) posted a personal-best 6K time, finishing the course in 23:28.97 for 120th place.
Freshman Amethyst Strickland and sophomore Katrina Skinner also competed for UCF, finishing in 132nd and 151st, respectively.
"The team did the best they could under the circumstances," said cross country coach Tyangela Sanders. "We only traveled four members of the team this weekend. Jamie and Carley did a great job with Carley running a personal best. We didn't close out the season as well as we would have liked, but we are excited about getting ready for a successful track season."
With the cross country season in the books, the program will turn its attention to the indoor track and field season. The Knights will have their first track meet of 2010 on Jan. 15-17 in Lexington, Ky., competing in the Kentucky Invitational.
Florida took three of the top-five spots and won the event with 33 points. The Gators' Rebecca Lowe won the individual title with a time of 20:03.29.
